Guide

When does insulation actually pay off?

Insulation often makes sense, but not every home gets the same first-step value. This guide helps you judge when insulation deserves early priority.

Start with heat loss, not with slogans

If your home leaks heat through the roof, walls, or floor, insulation can improve both comfort and energy costs. But the real question is sequencing: is insulation the smartest first move for your home right now?

Insulation is more likely to deserve early attention when

  • rooms cool down quickly after heating stops
  • you have visible cold surfaces or draft complaints
  • your EPC pressure suggests the building envelope matters
  • you are considering heating upgrades and want to avoid oversizing too early

It may not be the first move when

  • you still have urgent structural or moisture issues
  • window failure or safety issues are more pressing
  • you have not yet clarified which part of the envelope causes the biggest loss

Think in layers

The smartest order is often: identify the biggest losses first, decide which part of the shell matters most, and only then compare quotes. Savora is useful here because it helps you avoid treating all upgrades as equally urgent.
